The inaugural annual Quigney Festival will transform the seaside suburb through music, food, dance, art & design on February 27 & 28, 2026 on Caxton and Burns streets. Hosted by House 87, East London's historic Quigney district will play host to international jazz and musical legends, local dance groups curated by Sonwa Sakube, fashion designers, arts and crafts practitioners and food enthusiasts.
House 87 owner and Festival Director, Thando Thomas wants to celebrate the diversity of culture that used to embody Quigney. "I grew up in Mdantsane, with both fond and strange memories tied to Quigney — memories shaped by South Africa's divided past, but also by the freedom of its coastline".
He adds that for his peers, Quigney was a place of contradiction: a reminder of exclusion and struggle, yet also home to some of the most beautiful beaches, where every summer felt like an overseas holiday.
The Culture Festival is an intentional attempt to re-imagine these streets as places of belonging, opportunity, and pride; using culture not as spectacle, but as a practical tool for renewal. Through music, food, art, and youth-led innovation, the Festival creates real pathways for skills development, local enterprise, and community participation.
The Festival is delivered by House 87 (since 2022) and House 87 Culture Lab, established platforms with multi-year experience in live events, youth programmes, and cultural production. Through this festival, 70+ jobs will be created and 20+ SMMEs & artisans will be supported.
All tickets are sold exclusively via Computicket. General tickets are for sale for R300/R350, R1 150 for VIP and VVIP at R2 100. VIP and VVIP ticket holders have access to the Full Festival programme on 27–28 February, whereas general ticket holders have access to the Main Festival on 28 February only.
The Festival is delivered in collaboration with Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality. Event permissions, site plans, and compliance processes will be followed. Security, dedicated parking, crowd management, and safety personnel are integrated into the festival operations plan. Clear zoning ensures safe movement between streets, venues, and hosted spaces.
Caxton and Burns street will be closed for the days. Caxton will be closed up to Fitzpatrick road.
