EC Iinyathi lose Ngumbela Cup in the finals
The Eastern Cape Iinyathi suffered a narrow defeat to Port Elizabeth's Dafabet Warriors in the final of the Ngumbela Legacy Cup: Festival of Cricket held on September 14 at the Ngumbela Park in Healdtown, Fort Beaufort.
The annual cricket competition was founded in 2022 to celebrate community sport and the legacy of the late sports patron, Advocate Mthetheleli Ngumbela, uBawu Ndlovu.
The Eastern Province (EP) Women also defeated the East London outfit by 47 runs to win the cup. The tournament has the support of Border Cricket and Cricket South Africa. It features matches between local schools such as Dale College, Women's teams and professional teams; Dafabet Warriors and the EC Iinyathi.
The event uses cricket to unite, uplift communities and to increase cricket's exposure in the region. The defeat by the men's side of the EC Iinyathi comes after the team were crowned Momentum Health T20 Challenge Champions 2025 after an action-packed tournament from 1–4 September at Supersport Park in the finals.
