Spicy or Saucy? When you visit Elahleni Food and Braai on Quigney's Caxton street, come ready with an answer. Opened in 2018 by East London business woman, Lwandy Ngebe, Elahleni offers fresh braaied meat with delicious spices or meat on a sauce. I thought for sure I was a spice girl, but the jury is still out.
On any given day you will bump into celebrities, politicians and influencers dining with their bodyguards Elahleni, Spicy. Over the years, our appreciation of a braai has matured beyond boerewors and a beer. Elahleni sells fresh meat that is bought daily. Maybe that's the attraction.
But we know good meat can be overwhelming. Gourmet Chef Bevuya Mngweba ensures that this is not your average tshisanyama with class side dishes; chakalaka, spinach, beetroot, potato salad and steam bread. Braai that went to private school I tell you.
Family and children friendly, Elahleni has a picturesque dining area upstairs. I can safely say I have never seen the Orient Beach looking this scenic and pristine. If you cant get away from the office or home is too cosy you can call to order for pick up or for delivery.

The worst part of braai meat is waiting while you can smell it. That wait is not long at all here because the fire has its own braaimaster, Wanda Ntsoyi, while the kitchen dishes have at least three chefs. While you wait, hostess extra-ordinaire and waitress Yolanda is great company. I enjoy a person who enjoys what they do.
This review would be incomplete if I did not mention the sweet and fluffy steam bread. Wow. Elahleni Food and Braai management is brave to have all these delicious sides competing with the meat. We like brave.
